Drink more water! And get this amazing tumbler while you’re at it!
The struggle is real. Sounds easy enough, but why do some of us resist this so much when it seems so easy? My own hydration practices has been pretty poor, like I just don’t want to drink more water, but I know I should! Who wants to be peeing all day? Also, just the act of drinking water has been unpleasant to me. Although I do love me some mineral water. My favorite is Topo Chico! Everyone I introduce to Topo Chico becomes a lover of it!
In one period of my life, I started drinking 90 ounces a day. My headaches of 30 years went away. You’d think that would cure me and motivate me to drink more water, but I went back to my old ways. Drinking lots of water felt so forced. It just wasn’t sustainable.
Then this happened. My niece gave me a Stanley Tumbler for Christmas. She had heard me say I needed to drink more water. I was rather stunned when I opened my gift like “Hey, how did you know I needed this?”
Immediately, it felt easier to drink more water. I attribute this to three things. Being able to put 40 ounces in one container meant I only needed to drink two of those a day, instead of eight glasses (a psychological game, I suppose). The straw made a huge difference. Drinking from the straw was easier than gulping from a glass. Finally, the ice factor. Crisp, cold water tastes way better. This became much more appealing to me than gulping eight glasses of room temperature water.
How to Drink More Water
- Set Reminders: Use technology or simple reminders to prompt yourself to drink water regularly throughout the day. Set alarms on your phone, use a water tracking app, or place visual cues in your environment to stay mindful of your hydration goals.
- Use a Reusable Water Bottle: Keep a reusable water bottle with you at all times. Having easy access to water makes it more likely that you’ll take sips throughout the day. Choose a bottle you like to encourage consistent use.
- Infuse Your Water: Add natural flavors to your water by infusing it with slices of fruits, herbs, or cucumber. This can make drinking water more enjoyable and provide a refreshing twist without added sugars or calories.
- Create Water Drinking Habits: Associate drinking water with specific daily activities, such as having a glass before or after meals, when you wake up, or before bedtime. Building these habits can make staying hydrated a natural part of your routine.
- Track Your Intake: Keep a water journal or use a smartphone app to track your daily water consumption. Monitoring your progress can help you stay accountable and motivated, allowing you to make adjustments if needed to reach your hydration goals.
