RUMI POETRY DAY: A BRIEF HISTORY OF RUMI
Rumi was born in 1207 to a fairly wealthy family in present-day Afghanistan. However, his life changed dramatically when his father died and his family was forced to move to Turkey. There, Rumi started to learn about Islam and became increasingly interested in spiritual matters. He eventually became a teacher at a madrassa, where he began to develop his own unique style of poetry. It was during this period that Rumi wrote some of his most famous works, including the Masnavi.
